MBYC Mermaids Water Aerobics Starting June 1st

Water aerobics is an excellent exercise option for seniors and anyone looking for a low-impact workout. Starting June 1st on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 9:00am, MBYC introduces the Mermaids water aerobics program. This activity takes advantage of water’s buoyancy to reduce joint stress by up to 90%, making movement easier and less painful for those with arthritis or recovering from injuries.

Benefits of Water Aerobics

  • Joint Pain Relief

The buoyancy supports your body, reducing pressure on joints and allowing pain-free movement.

  • Improved Balance and Fall Prevention

Water’s natural resistance challenges your muscles, helping build core and leg strength to prevent falls on land.

  • Natural Resistance Training

Water provides 360-degree resistance, helping build lean muscle and bone density without heavy weights.

  • Better Heart and Lung Health

The exercise safely raises your heart rate, improving circulation, stamina, and lung capacity.

  • Enhanced Mental Health

Exercising in water reduces stress, improves sleep, and offers a social environment to meet peers.

Equipment and Tips

Participants need aqua fitness dumbbells for resistance. MBYC offers extra dumbbells for short-term borrowing if you want to try the class before purchasing your own. These dumbbells are available on Amazon but can be hard to find locally. Different resistance levels exist, so ask for guidance to choose the right pair.

Monthly Board of Directors Meeting on June 13th

The Monthly Board of Directors Meeting takes place on June 13th at 8:00 AM. This meeting is open to members interested in the club’s governance and upcoming plans. It’s a chance to stay informed and contribute ideas to help shape MBYC’s future.

MBYC Party on the Deck on June 13th

Celebrate summer with the MBYC Party on the Deck, starting at 5:30 PM on Saturday, June 13th. Hosted by Silver Sneakers & The Mermaids, this event promises an evening filled with great food, live music, and a lively atmosphere. The talented Morris Willis, a local musician with over 54 years of experience in the music industry, will entertain us with a mix of beach, country, and rock and roll hits. Formerly with Huckleberry Mudflap, Mr. Willis is known for taking song requests and creating a fun, interactive experience. Don’t forget your dancing shoes—there’s plenty of room on the deck for dancing!

The evening will be catered by Fat Fellas BBQ & Grill, featuring a delicious menu of baked chicken, fried chicken, pulled pork sandwiches, coleslaw, potato salad, and hushpuppies. Guests are encouraged to bring an appetizer or dessert to share, adding a personal touch to the feast. The cost is $20.00 per person, with kids under 12 eating for free.

You can prepay via Venmo to @Kim-Cawthern.

Please RSVP by June 11th through Facebook, email to mbyc@me.com or contact Kim at kcawthern@gmail.com or 570-916-3175.

Let’s gather at 5:30 PM, enjoy dinner around 6:30 PM, and make the most of this summer evening.

Depending on weather, we’d appreciate the possibility of borrowing a tent for the deck to ensure everyone stays comfortable.

We’ll have some chairs available, but feel free to bring your own for added comfort.

This is a wonderful opportunity to unwind, connect with fellow members, and soak up the vibrant energy of the MBYC community.
